Stations of the Cross

Stations of the Cross was an art exhibit organized and documented by Colette Copeland at Christ United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas on 6-7 April 2012.

This exhibit was created as an opportunity for reflection on the end of the season of Lent. All artwork was donated for viewing by professional artists in the D/FW area. The exhibit was designed to connect viewers with a modern-day interpretation of the pain of the Cross in our own lives and the world.

"Selecting artists whose work resonates with themes of Lent was particularly challenging. None of the selected artists created their work with the Stations of the Cross in mind. As a professional artist, writer and educator, I am interested in presenting contemporary art in an accessible way to the community. Featuring 11 artists working in painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation, my hope is that the exhibit will allow contemplation of both personal challenges and global social injustices/issues. By pairing each artist’s work with a station of the cross, I present their work in a new context, allowing for an open-ended dialogue—one that I hope will continue far past the season of Lent."
